Youth With A Mission, Arusha in realizing the evident social reality of orphans in our society resulting from a multiple of factors including the HIV Aids pandemic, decided as part of our social responsibility and divine call of God to seek to provide help and answers to the problem.
The ministry or department serving the orphans began with simple initiatives of rendering a helping hand to a few children in the neighboring homesteads but as soon as we started doing so, God in his mercies expanded our tents and more and more orphans came to our knowledge.
From our limited resources we could only help a few of them but we decided not to limit ourselves or the God we serve, we started sharing the stories of our orphans with our friends across the globe and little by little we got more and more people interested in partnering with us in taking care of the orphans in our midst.
As more partners came on board, we made a critical decision as a mission well aware of the proven negative effects of taking care of children in an institution; we decided to apply the home-based care model of orphans care.
We currently have a home (Tumaini home) built in partnership of a church in Bellingham, Washington state, USA and individual sponsors for most of the children with a few supported by partner organizations.
Our mission therefore decided to house in our Tumaini Children’s home only a few and most vulnerable of the orphans and instead keep as many of them at home with their close relatives who are willing to care for them and keep them connected to their family setting and cultural attachment provided they are enabled to do so.
Our Tumaini program therefore, takes care of the orphans while they stay with their relatives (Uncles, Aunties, Grandparents and older siblings), we provide schooling needs, supplies, uniforms, fees, medical care and where necessary food and shelter while they stay at home.
We have as a ministry times when we gather all of them together for group activities, holiday camps, trainings and Biblical mentorship as part of our responsibility to disciple them and nurture them in the fear of God and following the Biblical principles we all hold dear.
At the moment we have a total of 68 orphans under this program most of whom are in primary and secondary school.
